PROCESS IMPROVEMENT SPECIALIST, QUALITY
Department: Quality and Health & Safety
Location: Collingwood, ON
Reports To: Director, Quality and Health & Safety
Employment Type: Full-time
Work Environment: In-office manufacturing/production environment with frequent presence on the production floor for observation, data collection, and trial support.
Salary Range: $75,000 - $95,000 CAD per annum (based on experience and education)

SUMMARY: The Process Improvement Specialist (Quality) will lead data-driven continuous improvement across manufacturing processes to reduce defects, stabilize process performance, and improve customer and internal quality outcomes. This role applies SPC and capability analysis to monitor critical process parameters, perform structured root-cause investigations, and partners with Operations, Engineering, and Quality to implement, validate, and standardize sustainable improvements.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Establish and maintain SPC monitoring for critical process parameters (sampling plans, control charts) and react to special-cause variation.
· Perform process capability and performance analysis (e.g., Cp/Cpk, Pp/Ppk) and translate results into prioritized improvement actions.
· Analyze quality and production data to identify trends, drivers of variation, and early indicators of process drift.
· Lead structured problem solving and root-cause analysis using appropriate analytical tools, and document conclusions.
· Conduct and/or facilitate risk assessments (PFMEA/FMEA) and support process instruction updates to reduce risk of recurrence.
· Plan and execute continuous improvement projects including scope, timelines, deliverables, and communication.
· Assess workflows and process steps to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and increase process consistency.
· Partner with Operations and Engineering to implement process changes, support trials as needed and verify improvements through data-based validation.
· Support CAPA activities: define corrective/preventive actions, verify effectiveness, and ensure closure meets internal and customer requirements.
· Create and maintain documentation (SOPs, work instructions, control plans, training materials) to standardize improved processes.
· Deliver training and coaching on SPC interpretation, problem-solving tools, and continuous improvement principles.
· Ensure improvements and documentation align with applicable quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001) and site quality system requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Skills, Assets):
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· 4+ years of work experience in a manufacturing/operations environment in a quality, process control, process engineering, or continuous improvement role.
· Demonstrated experience applying SPC and basic statistics to monitor processes and support decision-making.
· Proven root-cause analysis and problem-solving capability, including clear documentation and follow-through on actions.
· Proficiency with data analysis tools (advanced Excel; Minitab or equivalent statistical software).
High Valued Assets
· Continuous improvement training and experience applying process improvements in a manufacturing environment.
· Experience using manufacturing and quality data systems to support monitoring, troubleshooting, and decision-making.
· Green Belt, Yellow Belt, or Black Belt certification is considered an asset.
· MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis) and/or work experience is considered an asset.
· ISO 9001 Internal Auditor certification and/or work experience is considered an asset.
· Takt Time and Chrono analysis work experience is considered an asset.
· Working knowledge of common quality system tools and approaches (e.g., risk assessment, measurement evaluation, and process validation concepts).
· Ability to interpret technical drawings/specifications and translate requirements into measurable process characteristics.
· Experience facilitating cross-functional improvement activities and documenting updated process requirements.
· Strong facilitation, change management, and stakeholder communication skills.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
· Process capability/performance indices (Cp/Cpk, Pp/Ppk) for defined critical characteristics.
· Defect, scrap, and rework rate reduction
· First-pass yield (FPY) / right-first-time performance.
· Sustained savings and throughput/cycle-time improvements delivered by completed CI projects.
· CAPA effectiveness (on-time closure; recurrence rate of top defects).
